Remnants She pondered if constancy was the meaning of life. She gazed down at the photograph-yellowed and crinkled from the deluge-and felt her throat swell so much it felt like sin itself had culminated in the cords. There were souls fleeing this place; she could feel her own clawing itself from her body. What remained? Mud, splinters, shards of glass and metal, memories buried underneath the wreckage. She held her bulging stomach, crushed the photograph in her white-knuckled hand; what was growing inside her didn't even seem worth it now.

As always, quite nice Shelby. Your pieces always convey such strong feeling and emotion.

Thank you so much, Nate. I always enjoy your comments. It's very encouraging that somebody likes my stuff. LOL I submitted this to a website for six sentence stories, but they never sent me a response. I dunno...but again, thank you.

For what work did you receive your award?

For Quietude (Dying Vigilance), but it was a thing they do for outstanding high school seniors and you get nominated too by teachers. Then the teachers showcase at least one work they think is great. It goes to one recipient for each high school. It's a good start. Now for a Nobel Prize. MHAHAHA!

Wow, you have your sights set high, and here I was ready to settle for just being a New York Times bestseller.

Well, that would be cool too, but Nobel Prize is the prize my eyes seek. lol Honestly, I just want people to know that I am a good writer and I want people to be touched by what I write. I think words have the greatest power to move the soul when it is tuned in to what it needs to know.

Thank you, Greg! Glad to see you on here! I really appreciate the comments! I was quite proud of this little number. Sad that they didn't get back to me because it was a lot better than most of them on there. LOL
