this is a short scene I wrote about a year ago. I haven't gotten the chance to let anyone I know really read most of the things I wrote. I just normally post them on Deviantart and hope someone finds them. Thats no way to go about writing. read and critique ;D
Running nearly as fast as his legs would carry him, voices in a foreign language screamed loudly as dogs barked in protest at their leashes. The branches of trees ripped at his face as the foliage got thicker with every thunderous step. His lungs burned and his mouth craved liquid. His heart was beating in his ears like drums. The sounds of gunshots behind him and the smell of gun powder would keep him running until he could not run anymore.
Screeching to a halt, he almost threw himself into the darkness right off a cliff. The sky was a hazy yellow as the sun drew in its last moments hanging lazily in the sky. The voices and yelling were drawing nearer and panic started to set in. looking around frantically for anything he quickly spotted a vine that was stuck to a tree. "Hey it works in the movies" he uttered to himself. Letting out a bellowing cry, he launched himself across the ravine and landed on his feet on the opposite side. His heart was behind his eyes now. Quickly glancing back he saw guerrilla soldiers stopped by the giant split of earth, unable to continue chase they started shooting at him. Ducking his head to avoid getting shot, he started to run again. "that ought to do it" he breathed
Shuffling dense branches aside, he kept moving. Finally he could see evidence of light and a clearing, and he was right.
The light bathed his eyes in gold, soft weather rounded rocks lined the dark tempered sand. Water lapped at the shore with a thirst to be wanted. A mountain with all its brutality and power towered over him, glistening with green and brown. He fell to his knees so stricken at the beauty of this place, it instantly threw his mind back to the love he lost back home. He let his hands clench and fill up with sand. For that moment he could feel her skin, see her smile, feel her lips against his. A single tear escaped his eye, exhaustion took him and all went dark
